Personalize Your Personal Space   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: interiordesigns
Your bedroom. Your space. Your style. Your choice. Some it is tricky to know what kind of stuff to buy for your own, very personal, space.
Image By: Mr MossFirst of all, choose a theme. A theme that is right for you and most of all a theme that is pleasant. Your room should please you. If you live with others, whether a spouse, roommate or family, it can be the one place you go to for that privacy that is often needed at the end of a long day. Choosing a theme isn't shouldn't be too hard. It basically boils down to finding what suits you, expresses something about you, relaxes you and makes you feel at home.
Maybe a beach theme, that brings you back to your last holiday, would be appropriate. Perhaps you're into a bit of retro and you're an individual who likes pop art. Try a classy, posh atmosphere to make you feel like spoiled royalty or go for a Zen inspired theme with bamboo and clear colours.
Perhaps you're a teenager at heart; go ahead, get those posters of your favourite singer or actor. Maybe you're still a girly girl at heart; let it show with your décor. Who is to judge what your room looks like? The important thing is that you have your own special place where you feel comfortable. We all need somewhere we can escape to and feel at home in.
If you feel you can't do it all by yourself and that you need decoration help, you can always seek professional assistance or check out the latest trends in interior design through the internet and magazines.

Design Your Teenager's Room   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: interiordesigns
The bedrooms of teenagers can be very complex areas. Things are far from easy during that stage of their lives, and are very different from when they were children and loved whatever you did as a parent. Now, you have to tread very carefully because if you do something wrong, you are in for it. So when designing a room for your teenage son or daughter, what are some things to consider?
Image By: blahadamIf you have a teenage boy, you should think about the importance of their private space. They will want to be able to hang out with their friends, relax, and be able to get a good night's sleep – a extremely high priority with teenage boys given that they spend so much time doing it. It should have a sturdy desk, big windows for plenty of light and thick curtains so that it is dark when they want to sleep.
With teenage girls it is a bit different. Generally speaking, girls of that age like pretty furnishings and accessories, as well as lots of light and air circulation. A big wardrobe for their clothes, and a set of drawers with a counter top for makeup and hair products are both essential. Just like their male counterparts, girls will want lots of space so that they can invite friends over to hang out.
Of course, it also depends on what personality your teenager has as the aforementioned tips are sweeping generalizations. It is also worth considering how much money you can afford to spend, and budget it so that you don't overspend or end up with a half-finished job. It is important to make sure that the room fits your teenager's interests and personality. You should also make sure that it is somewhere they will feel comfortable taking their friends and spending time by themselves.

Refurbished Old Furniture    [Report Abuse]

Posted by: interiordesigns
When it comes to furniture for your home, it is important to find something that fits with the overall style. But furniture of good quality can be quite costly if bought new. A fantastic and not too expensive idea is refurbishing old furniture. You may groan and think, “Old furniture? I do not want old looking furniture.” But, if you know how to do it, you could make your home look classy, original and all without spending a lot of money.
By refurbishing old furniture your home can have the touch of elegance, become quaintly original, or even add artistic value to it. If you do it right your home will look incredible.
For example, if you find an old armchair or sofa that you like the shape and size of, but the coverings are old fashioned and the legs are scuffed, all you need is a can of paint and some modern fabric coverings. Once you fix it up, you will end up with something beautiful that is completely original to you.
Maybe you have an ugly looking bookcase that you don’t use. With a little tender loving care, you could turn it into something attractive. Repainting it a different colour could really improve it. If it is rectangular in size, flip it on its side, fit on some wheels, and add a cushion on top. Voilà, it can be a bench with a storage unit at the bottom.
You can do almost anything with old furniture, if you have the right materials. It can cost much less than if you go straight to a shop, and you can make it look original, timeless and know that you are responsible for it.

Great Guide to Storage   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: interiordesigns
Perhaps you are moving for the first time, and don’t know where to start with packing and storage, or you have moved before, but could still use a few tips. Whether you are just storing your stuff for a short time in a removal van, or for longer in a storage facility, here are some fool-proof ideas to make it work.
•Do not store anything flammable (paints, thinners, gasoline, turpentine, etc.)
•Dismantling furniture and other items makes them easier to store.
•Standing your sofa on its end saves space.
•Clean all items before storing (to avoid mold and pests).
•Store valuables in unmarked boxes.
•Refrigerators and freezers should be totally clean and dry before storing. The doors should be left slightly open for air – your ovens, washers and dryers should be taped shut.
•Any breakables (dishes, glasses, lamps, etc.) should be individually packed in bubble wrap or newspaper, and stored on top of heavier objects.
•Lamp shades can be wrapped individually and stored inside each other.
•Large tables and beds: take off the legs and individually wrap each one (for protection); tape the screws and nuts to the bottom of the table so you don’t lose them.
•All boxes should be secured with good quality tape and labeled clearly (unless very valuable).
•Larger boxes should be used for bedding and large appliances, like television sets.
•Always store the heaviest boxes on the bottom and lighter ones on top (usually the biggest on the bottom, the smaller on top).
If you are going to use a storage unit:
•Check the access hours and get a phone number to use in an emergency.
•Check the security system: Is there a special code to enter the property? Are there security cameras?
•The unit should be dry and clean, with no sign of water damage, mold, or pests (look for animal droppings).
•Ask lots of questions until you’re satisfied.

Vintage Interior Design   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: interiordesigns
Some of the most beautiful and elegant things in the world are those that belong to the past. A vintage look in your living area can be extremely attractive and appealing. You can get a look like this in quite a few ways, and it can end up costing you quite a lot of money. This is shown through the high price you have the opportunity to obtain it by, unless you know a few tricks on how to do it for a better, cheaper, price.
Vintage items and decorations are often sold in fancy stores for expensive prices, but that’s not the only place where a person can get them. The world is full of old items which can be used for vintage decorating, and these stores don’t have to be your only source. One other place which is very good for finding vintage items is at a car boot sale.
Car boot sales and flea markets are full of all sorts of treasures buried among lots of junk. Many people don’t realise the value of the items they’re selling, and this is especially true in the case of vintage decorations. Someone might even be planning to throw away something which you would find interesting and decorative. Hunting through a flea market might take time, but it could end up giving you a wealth of hidden vintage gems.
You should also check out local garage sales. Families have all sorts of junk in their houses, and when they decide to clear it out, you might be able to stumble upon something you really like.
A last great place to find vintage decorations is online. Sites that allow users to sell or auction off their things can be a great area to look, because they are usually places where people are just trying to get rid of junk for a few pounds.
Vintage decorations aren’t exclusively in décor shops, and you can find them in many places if you keep your eyes open.

Unique Houses Near Nature   [Report Abuse]

Looking for a new concept while trying to find a new house? Would you like to try something original? Here are a few ideas:
Bridge House
Australian architect Max Pritchard got creative when requested by his clients to design a small house with a tight budget, while keeping the natural state of the property intact: a tall order? Perhaps.
But not too much for Max, who successfully created “The Bridge House” which stretches across a river valley and is surrounded by trees. Due to its environmental location, Pritchard was able to create the house to fit right in by designing it to include natural ventilation and cooling, as well as thermal windows and heat absorbing floors. The house also has a rainwater recycling system and solar hot water panels, which help keep costs down for the owners. A very environmental friendly house!
Tree Houses
Who didn’t enjoy tree houses as a kid? Ok, maybe those of us with vertigo, but for those of you who loved the experience of “living” up in a tree, albeit short lived with mother’s call to “come inside for dinner!”, you can now live this experience, for as long as you’d like.
There are different architects and companies that have designed and are designing tree houses, but Tom Chudleigh has definitely done something original with his tree houses named “Free Spirit Spheres”. Fitting name, after all living up in trees can give you a sense of freedom, don’t you think? These tree houses can be used as living quarters, meditation spots, meeting areas, you name it. They are eco-friendly and don’t obstruct the surrounding forest environment.
Earth Houses
‘Not to live under or in the ground but with it’ is what best describes the house designed by Swiss architect Peter Vestch. These hobbit-like houses are situated in Dietikon, Switzerland. He describes them as an “homage to the environment”.

Green House   [Report Abuse]

Going green in the house does not mean you must have celebrity status, or hold an engineering degree in botany, nonetheless paint your house green. There are simple rules to put into practice that turn your house from an energy killer to an energy saver. Going green means putting into play practices that later conserve earth’s most precious unrenewable resources: water and energy.
Unplug. Turn off. Unplug. Not only will unplugging electronics save on money, but it saves energy otherwise wasted. Most small electronics charge after 3-4 hours and leaving them in the wall does not continually increase the battery life. Turn off the television when it is not in use and lights when you leave the room. Train kids to do the same. Water can be turned off while brushing teeth, washing hands, and taking showers. During later periods, turn it off because it is unnecessary.
One bigger energy waste is cooling and heating methods used in extreme periods of the season. Turning off a thermostat at night saves a lot of energy. This may involve reanalysing and readjusting your definition of being comfortable.
Make recycling a habit. Contact your local city, municipality, or county services and find out when there is recycling pick up and if they accept all types of non organic materials and/or paper. If there is no recycling service it is a good idea to type up a document and find fellow neighbours who feel the same. Power in numbers has a big influence in local politics.
These practices can go beyond your home as well. Starting to put into practice environmentally friendly consciousness is very positive. Start commuting to work. A car’s emission output leaves a huge footprint on the earth. Find out who lives near you. Use your car rides to talk about ways to make the office greener.

Feng Shui Elements: Fire   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: interiordesigns
An old Chinese philosophy has transformed the home in contemporary times. How feng shui took control of the home stems from thousands of years ago, putting into reality the idea of balance, fusion and a natural equilibrium between earth elements. Feng shui also means positive energy that is released throughout a home recharging your life batteries.
The five feng shui elements are: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Before applying a balance of these elements there are first some basics to follow.
First, throw out all garbage and clutter and items that you do not love. Having a bash of items lying around leaves an everlasting ‘cluttered’ feeling inside. Doing away with unnecessary material objects will leave you feeling more relaxed.
Secondly, let in plenty of light. Don’t be afraid to open windows. Skirt open curtains to let sun filter in and reflect feng shui colours painted on the wall. Letting air move around the house increases a refreshing feeling, leaving you feel renewed.
Third, ask yourself: How does your house make you feel? There must be a balance between the energy of the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen and office. Each element has a specific space in the home coordinated by different colours, knowing where and how to apply them will help.
This intriguing element fire will illustrate how a colour creates a lovely feng shui balance. Different tones reflect each element that give off different feelings. In the South and Northeast areas of the house, apply the tones of red and orange. Like fire represents personal energy and career support, use these tones in paintings, a deep red wall, or simple accessories.
Another element, wood, is seemingly subtle and embracing in a family home since it represents development and stable growth. Wood helps to deter all the bad energy that would leave the house, keeping wealth and prosperity inside. Try using wood in a staircase or as the material for a door.

Design Ideas   [Report Abuse]

Whether it is for the design of one room or an entire building, one of the most important things when designing and decorating an area is the originality with which it is built. That is what interior designers value above all else. Though some people can come up with extremely innovative ideas without too much trouble, others of us find it too hard to do it. But don’t worry! Some tips and pointers will be detailed in this article.
One of the most important issues when designing a room is to make all the elements look natural. You don’t want all the elements of any given room or building to clash and give the place a sense of disconnect. Therefore, it is usually a good idea to get the same design of furniture and furnishings, regardless of the actual design. Also, it is usually a good idea if, when going to decorate the interior of your house or apartment, you first take note of the colour and build of the house. Some pieces of furniture might match each other, but if they don’t flow along with the setting, then they will be just as much of an eyesore.
Another thing to consider, when it comes to furniture and furnishings, is that not everything has to match. That is, not all the furnishings of the rooms have to perfectly correspond one to another. Choosing a certain theme for one room or set of rooms can give a nice counterpoint to the others. It gives variety and a wider range of aesthetics to whatever rooms are decorated. And it’s not completely obligatory to change up the design styles. If you choose to make the entire house or apartment of a single design, then all is well and good. You, after all, must choose the design that most suits you.
